Cold War Cover Versions
Radio broadcast, tracklisting
This radio broadcast considers Soviet cover versions of American compositions ranging from protest song, disco, jazz and funk. These recordings were released during the cold war, and are a testament to the conflict between the state and culture behind the iron curtain. It is assumed that the Soviet composers accessed the original American recordings through western radio transmissions. These broadcasts would have been amongst the few radio frequencies ungoverned by Soviet state satellites to prevent citizens from listening to them.
